1812 Overture

Long time ago, a good friend of mine introduced me to Rush. One of Rush’s immensely famous pieces is called “2112 Overture“. One lazy morning at work, when work sounded extremely boring, I tried to read as much as I could. There is a wonderful live version of Rush’s composition on Youtube. Rush plays this composition in a medley comprising several other songs. Generally, they follow up Temple of Syrinx with 2112 Overture.

It was then that I read about 1812 Overture. Yesterday, I started listening to this piece via Youtube. Unmistakably brilliant composition. It is the same composition Wachowskis used in V for Vendetta. What a heart rending composition! Wiki says that Tchaikovsky composed this piece in 1880 to commemorate Russian defense against Advancing Napoleon’s armies in 1812 at Battle of Borodino. The battle itself is an interesting event to look at. The piece is ripe with patriotic spirit. Just brilliant. Here is Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra’s performance from Youtube.
